Global Water Velocity Sensor (WV400) Global Water Velocity Sensor (WV400) For Measuring Flows in Open Channels and Partially Filled Pipes Accurate Low-Cost Reliable Waterproof Flow Calibrated Description The Water Velocity Sensor is a highly accurate water velocity instrument for measuring flows in open channels and partially filled pipes. The Water Velocity Sensor consists of the protected Turbo-Prop positive displacement sensor coupled by a sensor cable to a pulse to 4-20 mA convertor. The Water Velocity Sensor is ideal for stormwater runoff studies and measuring flows in pipes, streams, ditches and flumes. Turbo-Prop Sensor The Water Velocity Sensor incorporates the unique Turbo-Prop propeller sensor which uses the most accurate positive displacement technique for velocity sensing. The Turbo-Prop is designed to shed debris and rotate freely on its bearing shaft with no mechanical interconnections for minimal friction. Magnetic material in the propeller tip passes the pickup coil in the housing, producing electrical impulses which are carried to a pulse to 4-20 mA convertor at the upper end of the cable. The Turbo-Prop, the unit's only moving part, is easily removed for cleaning or replacement. Pulse to Analog The pulse to analog convertor receives the electrical signal from the propeller, amplifies it and converts the reading to 4-20 mA proportional to velocity. The Water Velocity Sensor is powered by 10-36 VDC at 0.04 amp and produces a 4-20 mA output signal equal to 0-25 FPS (0-8 MPS). Handle The Water Velocity Sensor is equipped with a 1' x 1' "L" shaped PVC mounting handle for easy installation to a piling or post. The waterproof 25' cable is encapsulated onto the probe. Installation The Water Velocity Sensor is provided with a stainless steel quick disconnect clamp for mounting the sensor to a piling or post. The clamp should be bolted to the piling or post and the probe should be secured within the clamp using the quick release bolts.
