Global Water Turbidity Sensor (WQ700) Global Water Turbidity Sensor (WQ700) The Global Turbidity Sensor is a highly accurate submersible sensor for in-situ environmental or processing monitoring. The WQ700 incorporates a precision optical system with sapphire windows and 90° light scattering. The sensor is mounted in a rugged anodized housing and is fully encapsulated with marine grade epoxy for trouble-free operation. The Global Turbidity Sensor provides exremely accurate linear measurements in the 0.1 NTU to 200 NTU optical range, which covers most environmental water conditions. Optional ranges up to 0-2000 NTU for wastewater and industrial processes are also available. The sensor operates from 10 to 36 VDC battery power at a low 35 mA and has a 4-20 mA output. The sensor can be pulsed on and off by dataloggers or telemetry RTU's for extremely low power consumption. Operation The internal operation of the probe is designed with a Light Emitting Diode and optical lens that focus light into a dark-field sample region. Particles scatter light through defraction, refraction, and reflection in all directions. A detector with a limited EPA-specified acceptance angle collects light at 90° to the focused beam resulting in a measurement of particle concentration or water cloudiness. The measured light level is converted to an electrical signal, filtered and displayed, resulting in the raw 4-20 mA output. The WQ700 sensor has a linear output from 0-200 NTU and can be displayed on any standard meter capable of accepting 4-20 mA signals. The WQ700 may be suspended in the water by its cable or it may be attached in place. The sensor may be used in 2" diameter groundwater wells or still wells in rivers or streams. It may also be inserted into process streams in pipes through a 1" compression fitting. With the optional WQ760 display, the Sensor can be used for portable in-situ monitoring.
