Description

The Global Discrete Stormwater Sampler is designed specifically to meet the sampling requirements of Georgia's Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division construction runoff monitoring regulations. The sampler is easy to install near any storm water channel and can store water samples throughout a storm event. The sampler is weatherproof and requires minimal maintenance. The unit includes all of the parts necessary to ensure a successful sampling program.

The SS101 Stormwater Sampler consists of the following features:

a rugged, rainproof, and lockable carrying enclosure,
a 2.5 gallon polyethylene sample bottle for a first flush sample,
a peristaltic sampling pump,
a control panel enclosed logic regulator,
a rain sensor and a water sensor (both with 15' of cable),
a rechargeable 5 AH gel cell battery and battery charger,
a rain gauge (with mounting bracket and screws) that meets US Weather Bureau specifications, and
a 15' long sample pickup hose with removable debris strainer.
The Discrete Stormwater Sampler takes a discrete sample (about 2.5 L) based on two variables: rainfall accumulation (using the rain sensor) and water discharge. The rain sensors can also be used independently (by using a sensor bypass plug). The sampler has a Sample Now switch that verifies if the battery discharged and the unit was set up correctly. The sampler also has a backflush function to clear the pickup hose and strainer after a sample is complete. The sampler's rechargeable battery will last without requiring recharging throughout several storm events.

Georgia's NPDES Permit

Georgia's Department of Natural Resources General Permit No. GAR100000 - Authorization to Discharge Under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, Storm Water Discharges Associated with Construction Activity became effective August 1, 2000. The permit strongly encourages the use of automated water sampling equipment. The following overview is presented for general information only and should not be considered a replacement for fully reading and understanding the permit.

The Permit requires stormwater samples be taken at construction sites between 5 and 250 acres, as well as at smaller sites that are part of a common development, within 45 minutes following either:

the collection of a specified amount f rainfall after stormwater runoff begins; or
the beginning of stormwater runoff after the collection of a specified amount of rainfall.
The Permit also requires that samples be taken at the following frequency:

First rainfall event greater than or equal to 0.5 inch in 24 hours;
Any rainfall event greater than or equal to 1.0 inch in 24 hours (but only one event per month needs to be sampled until final stabilization);
Any rainfall event greater than 2.0 inches in 24 hours until final stabilization;
One rainfall event greater than or equal to 0.5 inch in 24 hours after final stabilization; and
If Best Management Practices have not been properly designed, installed, or maintained in accordance with the Permit, any rainfall event greater than or equal to 0.5 inch in 24 hours.
In addition, the Permit requires that rainfall be measured and recorded once every 24 hours.

Models & Options

SS101 Discrete Stormwater Sampler.......................$995
Includes the following parts: a rugged, rainproof, and lockable carrying enclosure, a 2.5 gallon polyethylene sample bottle for a first flush sample, a peristaltic sampling pump, a control panel enclosed logic regulator, a rain sensor and a water sensor (both with 15' of cable), a rechargeable 5 AH gel cell battery and battery charger, a rain gauge (with mounting bracket and screws) that meets US Weather Bureau specifications, and a 15' long sample pickup hose with removable debris strainer.

RG220 Programmable Tipping Bucket Control.............$250
Adds function to the SS101 and RG200 by automating rainfall based stormwater sampling. The option triggers samples at programmable rainfall levels (in intervals of 1/100 inch) and will reset rainfall counts every 24 hours. Please download brochure or contact Global Water for further information.

RG200 Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge..............................$150
The RG200 has a 6" diameter funnel and a tipping bucket mechanism that produces a contact closure for every 0.01" of rainfall. This unit can be used with the SS101 and RG220 to trigger samples based on a programmable rainfall level, or it can be used with the RG780 Rain Gauge/Pulse Logger to log rainfall amounts.
